When you skip Voting It's not Rebellion, It's Surrender

About Us

My journey began in 2008 when I became a poll worker and learned about the basics of the voting process. Yearning to learn more, I became an Election Inspector for the City and County of Los Angeles. In my services, I became aware of the dismal number of Iranian-American voters in elections. What was more disappointing was observing the very low turnout of the second-generation registered Iranian-Americans who were proficient in English, were eligible to vote, and could access election materials but still were not coming out to vote. In 2012, motivated by this fact I set out to resolve this issue by submitting a proposal to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office to have election materials available in Farsi. My hope was that the second-generation Iranian-American voters would view this goal as a necessary and significant accomplishment on behalf of our community. But more importantly I wanted to be able to provide the eligible first-generation Iranian-Americans and all other Farsi speaking voters who have a hard time participating in the electoral process due to their lack of proficiency in the English language, a valuable tool which will empower them to exercise their right to vote.

I am so proud to announce that in 2014 after two years of working on my goal, Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office approved my proposal. They began offering online Sample Ballot Booklets in Farsi using data from the US Census and in areas with the highest number of Iranian-Americans or Farsi speakers.  You can find the Farsi Sample Ballot Booklets for your area when you go to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office website below:  www.lavote.net/locator By entering your house number and street name you can find out if  the Farsi Sample Ballot Booklet is offered in your area or precinct.

In September of 2015 FarsiVoter was created, where we strive to bring you accurate and current information about local, State and Federal elections.
